About Dr Mom
Welcome to my blog,
As the title suggests, I’m a Doctor and a mom. The two things are mutually exclusive, but I did become a mother whilst becoming a doctor and hence Dr Mom was born along with my son. I have studied psychology for a decade now and will soon be obtaining the title of Counselling Psychologist. My passion is psychology, philosophy and all things relevant to the human experience.
What’s this blog all about?
Well, I don’t believe in setting things in stone as I am a human being and life is fluid and ever changing. This blog is an extension of me. I intend to write posts about psychology, philosophy and mental health whilst giving my professional and experiential opinion throughout. Sometimes I’ll tell stories or share my growth of knowledge as a mother. I’ll write book reviews on the things I’m reading, offer advice, guidance and generally provide useful information and hopefully a stimulating read. Anything goes really, but my goal is to share important information with other parents, but perhaps more specifically mothers.
The idea for this blog began as a joke. My partner and I were taking the piss out of all of the social media accounts and clubs we’re aware of that have “mom” or “mum” in the title for example: ‘Fitness Mom’, ‘Hot Mum’s’, ‘Mum’s who Work’, ‘This Mom Lives’, etc… Now I just made all of those up off the top of my head, but I’m sure you’ve seen something similar before. I personally find a lot of the names, organisations and accounts to be quite corny, but I understand the need for spaces and camaraderie for us mothers because our role is full-on.
This is a safe space
It is my hope that this blog can be useful to anyone who stumbles upon it. Perhaps you’re a student studying psychology and you find my page because one of the topics is relevant to a paper you’re writing - great! I’m glad I can help. Maybe you're searching for a new non-fiction psychology book and somehow you find my review. Or maybe you're a parent looking for some practical advice and want a trusted source for mental health content - I'm here for you! My point is, the blog is versatile and it is for everyone. Not just mom’s. I hope to see comments and questions and for this to be a safe and interactive space. If you want me to write about a particular topic or elaborate on it, please let me know in the comments and I will do my best to oblige.
Thank you for visiting my blog!
